Do it yourself - tiling!

Spring fever is in full swing and summer seems to have already started. High time to go into the garden and dust off the terrace! I found that some coziness, ease and colour were missing. The lounge set was quickly assembled, but I didn't like having no table for another season. That's why I made a side table with the colourful Azule cement tiles.

I selected the desired pattern via the floor planner on designtegels.nl , then selected the required installation and treatment products and I could get started. My friend had mounted two pallets on top of each other and provided them with white stain and wheels. He had also made the frame for the tiles, the only thing left was to place the tiles.

We had a bag of glue that had to be mixed with water. However, a novice DIYer like me doesn't have the right materials and then you get creative... After all, the glue can easily be mixed with a hand mixer! (Clean thoroughly immediately after use so that the cupcakes don't get a strange taste.)

Then the glue has to be evenly distributed with a glue comb. Yes, that glue comb... Oops, not in the house either. Again some creativity was used and the glue could easily be distributed with a leaf rake!

To keep the distance between the tiles the same, use tile spacers. Our table was just a little longer and wider, so we used wooden slats.

After the glue had dried I impregnated the tiles with Azule Stain Stop. Most tiles needed 2 layers, but for some I added an extra layer.

The grout was also mixed with a hand mixer and applied with a gardening trowel and spread with a squeegee (yes, we did have those :D ). After grouting, I cleaned the tiles and finally provided them with tile oil.

For impregnation I used the Designtegels impregnation pad, what a handy thing! The impregnation agent could be evenly distributed and you do not waste anything as is the case with a paint roller. It absorbs the impregnation agent and does not release as much as the impregnation pad does.

I have read that cement tiles are sensitive to stains. I was therefore a bit careful with drinking glasses. However, if the tiles are well impregnated, they can take quite a bit. The coffee stains came off with ease!

Now all that remains is to stain the slats on the sides and we can enjoy a very cheerful side table this summer!
