Impregnation makes the stone more resistant to stains, but not completely stain- or waterproof.

In very wet spaces such as a shower, the risk of stains from moisture and lime is greatest. Lime can adhere well to a porous surface and can leave rings or streaks.

Proper impregnation is very important, but so is repeated impregnation if you want to keep the tiles looking good. It is also important that the space is dried after use, for example with a squeegee or dry cloth.

If these tiles are used outdoors, impregnation is also very important. Moisture can penetrate and freeze in frost, causing the tiles to crack or break.

Tip: a water softener significantly reduces rings and lime deposits on porous tiles.

*Craquelé tiles

Craquelé tiles contain many small hairline cracks and absorb moisture immediately. Grout is also quickly visible in the small hairline cracks, which can change the external characteristic of the tile. We therefore always recommend impregnating craquelé tiles with Vlekstop after grouting and before laying. In wet spaces, this must be repeated annually.

You can recognise craquelé tiles by the various visible hairline cracks in the glaze. If these cracks are visible, we always recommend impregnating the tiles. Some tiles have only a few hairline cracks but quickly develop more over time, sometimes you can also hear them 'pinging'. For this type of tile, we always indicate on the product page whether it is a craquelé tile so you know that impregnation is important.

Beware of Antikal and other strongly acidic cleaners, as these can damage the surface of craquelé tiles.

The use of craquelé tiles in a shower is not recommended unless the tiles are well impregnated and this is also repeated annually, and the shower is dried well after use.
