Deep cleaning

Cement tiles are handmade tiles made from pigment and cement powder. This makes them slightly porous, so they need to be impregnated as soon as they have been laid. Despite the good impregnating products from Azule that we have developed for this purpose, there is still a risk that acids, juices or stubborn dirt will penetrate the tile.
One example was a customer with an outdoor terrace decorated with the Rosso 01 tile. During the renovation of the house, the contractor sawed the wooden floor on the terrace. Beneath all the waste and splinters, the (acidic) juices from the wood seeped into the ground, resulting in a dirty brown stain on the otherwise colourful tiles.

Dirt on cement tiles

If a cement tile becomes dirty through everyday use or you spill something on it in the kitchen, the impregnating layer will always prevent it from penetrating. You can simply clean the tile with soft soap or Azule Floor Soap, but if the substance is an acid, it will eat through the impregnating layer and sometimes even through the colour layer. We always recommend lightly sanding the tile with very fine sandpaper. This removes the top layer of colour and, if the acid has not been left to soak in for too long, there is a good chance that no trace will remain.
We gave the same advice to the customer with the outdoor terrace. Alongside sanding, we recommend using our Superboen so that you wet-sand the surface. Superboen removes all the dirt from the tile at the same time. After a thorough scrub, it looks as good as new!

Treating the tiles again

Once the dirt has been removed from the tile, the impregnating layer will unfortunately have been sanded away too. It is therefore very important to re-impregnate the tiles immediately. We have various products for this, depending on the room where the tiles have been laid. (See our treatment schedule) For this outdoor terrace, we recommend Azule Vlekstop. You can apply it with the handy impregnating pad, specially developed for this purpose, which ensures that the impregnating product is distributed evenly.

After impregnating the floor twice, for extra peace of mind, it is fresh and clean again, ready to be enjoyed once more!
